I used to spend every other week traveling throughout 13 states in the Midwest for business.\u00a0 I have seen the Corn Palace in South Dakota (http:\/\/www.cornpalace.org\/<\/a>).\u00a0 I\u2019ve driven an SUV on frozen Lake Minnetonka.\u00a0 \u00a0I\u2019ve had a chance to compare Memphis, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Texas BBQ in a one month span.\u00a0 I\u2019ve visited family and friends all along the east coast.\u00a0 I have taken a number of road trips through Oregon, Washington and Nevada. \u00a0I like to think I\u2019m a well traveled man.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The one lesson I\u2019ve learned is there is no place like home.\u00a0 California, the Golden State.\u00a0 Home of USC, UCLA, Berkeley, Stanford, Pepperdine, CSUF, among the many other fine institutions.\u00a0 We have Silicon Valley and the Housewives of the OC, Snoop Dogg and Mickey Mouse.\u00a0 We have THIS<\/a>!!! I like frigid 60 degree winter days.\u00a0 Don\u2019t get me wrong, I enjoy snowboarding.\u00a0 It\u2019s just that I prefer to go to the snow instead of having it come to me.\u00a0 I enjoy driving to the white, snow-capped Sierra\u2019s in an hour\u2026 wearing shorts and flip flops.\u00a0 More than that, I like the fact that I can enjoy a day snowboarding and still make it to a sunset dinner on the beach in the same day.\u00a0 Sure traffic is horrific, botox and silicone abounds, and it costs $800k to buy a 1600sq foot condo but I\u2019ll take it.\u00a0 I have the sun, snow, Hollywood, and beaches all at my finger tips.<\/p>\n

Sounds great doesn\u2019t it?\u00a0 Not so much.\u00a0 As I open my morning e-newspaper, I\u2019m slapped with a brutal reminder of our reality.\u00a0 California is hurting.\u00a0 Recent headlines read \u201c84 companies added to the \u2018leaving California\u2019 list.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cCalifornia dominates small-business bankruptcies.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cIs California A Sinking Ship?\u201d\u00a0 Ouch.\u00a0 Sure our regulations and taxes need to be more business-friendly but for a State that has so much to offer, it seems we should be able to figure out how to boost our economy.\u00a0 Well, the California Tourism Board came out with a number of TV Ads that I\u2019ve seen repeatedly on major networks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tourism makes up a huge chunk of our tax revenues so I like the idea.\u00a0 My only question is why I, a SoCal resident, keep seeing these ads on major TV networks here in the state?\u00a0 I know it takes a hefty sum of money to purchase ad space and produce ads.\u00a0 Why are they targeting Californians with an ad that has our Governator telling us \u201cyou\u2019ll be back.\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019ll be back???\u00a0 We\u2019re already here!<\/p>\n

Granted, I haven\u2019t seen metrics on the ad campaign but at face value it looks like they\u2019re targeting the wrong people with the wrong ad.\u00a0 This happens so often with businesses today.\u00a0 One recent example we spoke to is a airport Town Car service who serves business travelers.\u00a0 This company\u2019s ad campaign was targeted to his local area so they were missing all the business travelers flying into town from other states.\u00a0 While this is a blatant example, the principle holds true\u2026 it is always important to evaluate your ad campaigns to ensure your money is being maximized.\u00a0 Our consultants have been a tremendous resource for many businesses and enjoy working with clients to maximize their ad spend in these tough times.\u00a0 Give us a call\u2026\u00a0 I assure you, \u201cYou\u2019ll be back.\u201d<\/p>\n
