{"id":171,"date":"2011-10-06T11:15:00","date_gmt":"2011-10-06T16:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nettsolutions.com\/blog\/?p=171"},"modified":"2011-10-06T11:17:59","modified_gmt":"2011-10-06T16:17:59","slug":"isad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nettsolutions.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/isad\/","title":{"rendered":"iSad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don\u2019t use Apple products.\u00a0 More notably I\u2019m known in my office as the guy who is extremely annoyed by \u201cMac people.\u201d\u00a0 I have an Android Phone.\u00a0 My newest toy is the Samsung Series 9 which is a PC knockoff of the Macbook Air.\u00a0 I admit, I did receive an iPad as a gift but it sits idly on my nightstand collecting dust.\u00a0 For our company\u2019s outside sales team I purchased the Motorola Xoom tablet.<\/p>\n<p>So why did I decide to come out of blogging hibernation today to discuss the man who spearheaded the culture that irked me so?\u00a0 Because as a businessman I loved Steve Jobs.\u00a0 I spent the last few years back in school earning my MBA.\u00a0 I wrote countless pages on the topic of the recession, growth, people, and innovation.\u00a0 Let me rephrase that\u2026 I spent endless hours confirming the theory that <em>people<\/em> need to <em>innovate<\/em> in order to spur the <em>growth<\/em> necessary to climb out of this <em>recession<\/em>.\u00a0 \u00a0It all starts with people.\u00a0 People like Steve Jobs.\u00a0 People like you and me who can carry on his spirit of innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Never, in my lifetime, has someone been able to blend art &amp; science with such vigor.\u00a0 Mr. Jobs was able to make geeks cool.\u00a0 He made the cool want the geeky.\u00a0 Never has anyone been able to merge form and function so beautifully.\u00a0 His products were truly superior.\u00a0 And this is an admission coming from someone who is turned off by \u201cMac people.\u201d\u00a0 In order for our nation to grow we need to innovate.<\/p>\n<p>I know what you\u2019re thinking\u2026 \u201cI don\u2019t make electronics!\u201d\u00a0 You don\u2019t have to. \u00a0I don&#8217;t. \u00a0I&#8217;m in the business of online advertising. \u00a0A culture of innovation is the state of mind.\u00a0 It\u2019s about seeing things differently. \u00a0It&#8217;s about questioning the status quo. \u00a0Instead of just thinking outside the box, tear down the box and throw it in the recycling bin.\u00a0 It\u2019s about taking the argumentative \u201cyeah but\u2026\u201d out of your vocabulary and replacing that with questions of what \u201ccould be.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s about doing good\u2026 correction\u2026 it\u2019s about being at your best instead of simply trying to hit numbers.\u00a0 It\u2019s about selling differently no matter what you sell.\u00a0 It\u2019s about working with passion and bringing fun back into whatever you do.\u00a0 It\u2019s about saying \u201cI can\u201d when people say you can\u2019t.\u00a0 It\u2019s a belief.\u00a0 It\u2019s contagious.\u00a0 It\u2019s about people.\u00a0 Not products or job roles.\u00a0 It\u2019s about making geeky cool and cool geeky.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll end this rant with this final thought.\u00a0 Last night my wife walked in the house and the first words out of my mouth were \u201cI\u2019m sad.\u00a0 Steve Jobs just died.\u201d\u00a0 I continued on to say, \u201cthere are only a few people our country really needs right now.\u00a0 There are only a handful of people I want my kids to grow up and meet someday.\u00a0 Steve Jobs was one of them.\u201d\u00a0 Well, all that\u2019s left for us to do is to be that person.\u00a0 Strive to be a businessman, parent, or friend that people will want their kids to meet someday.<\/p>\n<p>-Michael<\/p>\n<p><em>Nett Solutions is a SEM agency working with Yahoo! and Google.
